Why is Hair Colour so Expensive?

Does the price of your hair cause you slight discomfort? Yes, you are not alone. In recent years, the technique has changed dramatically. The quality of the result we expect to see is nothing short of perfection. The lived-in, low-maintenance look has taken over the social feed. However, the price seems to be more of a surprise as it's not really talked about.

If you were used to paying $200 for foils, and now you are paying $350 to $600+, that can be pretty shocking. The first thing that's changed is timing. A lived-in look requires 3.5 hours +. The placement of foils and added dimension takes the stylist a few years to master, and it costs a significant amount of education. Shadow root and root melt are more technical new growth-colour applications and must sit from 10-20 mins. A global tone-all over colour is applied, and that sits for 10-20 mins. Usually done at the same time as the root melt with a blending technique. We haven't talked about tipping out the ends or wet balayage. I'll speak to that in another post. Just know if you are sitting with foils and enlightener exposed on the ends, you are getting a tip out, and the colour application will result in brighter ends and more work at a higher price.

Some positive thoughts: The lived-in technique can last up to 6 months, which means less frequent touch-ups and salon visits. This not only saves time but also allows the hair to maintain its healthy condition as it requires less chemical processing.

If you are trying to cover grey, this technique can work. Please forward any questions you have, and I'd be more than happy to clarify them.
